THE CAUSE
Wissam is riding for the hundreds of thousands of sick and underprivelged children in the Middle East. He is working with Palestine Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF) and his ultimate goal is to raise funds for the building of children’s hospitals and for medical missions across the entire Middle East region.
PCRF, or the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund, is a registered non-political, non-profit organization established in 1991 by concerned and altruistic individuals in the United States to address the medical and humanitarian crisis facing Palestinian youth in the Middle East. Since its establishment, the philanthropic union has expanded beyond the borders of Palestine to help suffering children from other Middle Eastern nations, such as Iraq, solely based on their medical necessities. The PCRF aids in locating free medical care for children who are unable to get the necessary and specialized treatment in their homeland.
The primary objective of the PCRF is to identify and treat every child in the Middle East in need of specialized surgery not available to them locally. We locate, sponsor and run volunteer medical missions to the Middle East in pediatric cardiac surgery, pediatric cardiology, plastic and reconstructive surgery, maxillofacial surgery, pediatric urology, ophthalmology, vascular surgery, pediatric orthopedic surgery, Pediatric urology and pediatric surgery as well as many other specialties. We also locate abroad free medical care for children who cannot be adequately treated in the Middle East. The PCRF is the main organization regularly sending injured and sick Arab children to North and South America, the Middle East and Europe for free care that is not available to them there. Since 1991 over 1,000 children have been abroad for millions of dollars of donated care through the PCRF.
Also, PCRF helps to improve the quality of medical care in the Middle East by providing medical equipment and supplies to the local medical facilities. Clearly, charity cannot be sufficient enough to guarantee the wellbeing of an entire nation, so the organization has taken further steps to ensure children in need are attended to properly. With the health and longevity of a nation in mind, the PCRF has both trained Palestinian surgeons to treat patients, as well as sent medical personnel from around the world to the region to treat difficult cases and train medical personnel, too.
